Dr Fernando Afonso – Principal Dentist
I graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1995 and am a member of the Australian Dental Association. I owned a successful practice in the Perth northern suburb of Woodvale for eight years before moving to Sweden with my young family for a couple years.
Although I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, I have a special interest in cosmetic treatments, and thrive on transforming patients’ smiles and self-confidence through minimally invasive procedures such as whitening and aesthetic composite restorations as well as advanced restorative techniques such as veneers, crowns, bridges and dental implants.
I believe strongly in the value of continuing dental education. “The field of dentistry is changing every day and to be the best dentist you can be, you must stay current”. As such I enjoy attending post graduate courses both in Australia and internationally.
Outside of dentistry you will find me on the water whenever the opportunity presents itself. I love boating, diving and I’m a keen fisherman. I enjoy making the most of Rotto and Perth beaches with my wife and three kids.
Dr Sean Archibald – Dentist
Dr Sean Archibald (Archie) joined the team in June 2013 after spending his last few years practicing in Northam. He enjoys all aspects of modern dentistry with a particular passion for new technologies including laser and computer aided dentistry; and oral surgery for the removal of problematic wisdom teeth and placing dental implants to restore missing teeth.
Outside of Dental Reflections Dr Archie is on the WA Branch Council of the Australian Dental Association and also on the Recent Graduates Advisory panel to the Federal ADA Council. He also has a keen interest in volunteer dental organisations having travelled overseas multiple times to work with disadvantaged children and also at home is heavily involved in the National Dental Foundation W.A. This group aims to provide dental treatment to underprivileged aspects of the community who are unable to access dental services through other means.
In his personal time he enjoys surfing, cycling and a good glass of red wine when the situation calls for it.
Dr Joel Tan – Dentist
I welcomed the opportunity to be part of the close-knit Dental Reflections team in 2017. I graduated from the University of Western Australia and I am a member of the Australian Dental Association. Prior to sinking my teeth into the dental field, I have previously worked in the areas of health research and food science, both in Perth and interstate.
I have an interest in volunteer work and have recently returned from a trip to Vietnam to improve the oral health of disadvantaged children. Dentistry provides a unique opportunity to make a difference and I look forward to working with my colleagues to provide you with a pleasant dental experience. As a team, we endeavour to help you as best as we can to ensure that your oral health needs are met.
Outside of the dental practice, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, keeping fit, photography, and strumming on the guitar. Like the rest of the team, I love a good laugh and I believe that no jokes are too lame for the dental setting, so feel free to come prepared with a joke or two when you visit us!
Kylie – Oral Health Therapist
Kylie joined the Dental Reflections team in 2016 after relocating to Perth from rural New South Wales.
After accidentally falling into the dental industry in 2008 as a non experienced dental assistant, she found the career she loved and it was a swift progression to further her education. Kylie graduated with honours from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga with a dual degree in dental hygiene and therapy. She is passionate about preventing dental disease in all ages, and takes particular effort in ensuring children always have positive and fun dental experiences.
When she’s not reading text books or keeping up to date with the latest research papers, Kylie enjoys travelling, exercise, singing, and chilling out with her two fur babies.
Kiri – Dental Hygienist
Kiri joined the dental industry in 2006 and worked as a dental assistant until 2009 when she graduated from Curtin University as a Dental Hygienist. Since then, she has continued to work in private practice as a Dental Hygienist.
After completing a Diploma of Management, Kiri has also spent time in administration and management within the Dental Industry. However, she found she preferred the front line with patients due to the variety of lovely patients and the opportunity to contribute good clinical and educational care.
Kiri is passionate about health and wellness and strongly values education in the dental clinic so that patients can prevent disease. It is for this reason she accepted a role with Colgate as a Professional Oral Care Consultant. This role allows her to broaden her reach to even more patients by educating and updating other professionals on the products Colgate have available so that patients know exactly what product/tools they need.
Kiri joined Dental Reflections in 2016 and enjoys a dual role in the industry as a part time clinical professional and part time consultant.
In her spare time Kiri is generally exercising her energetic Border Collie, frequenting cafe’s looking for the best turmeric or almond lattes and reading. Kiri also loves to travel and has, in the past, been involved in volunteer trips to countries like India.
Alicia- Practice Manager
Alicia joined DENTAL REFLECTIONS in 2015 when Dr Fernando came to the practice. Alicia has enjoyed working alongside Dr Fernando at a couple of practices over the past 16 years and is very happy to be back working with him again. Alicia completed her dental assistant certificate back in 1999 and with the knowledge of both clinical and reception sides of the business, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and has a particularly strong focus on ensuring each patient’s visit is an ‘exceptional’ one.
When she is not working Alicia has two beautiful girls who keep her busy.
Courtney – Front Office Coordinator
Courtney joined Dental Reflections in 2013 when Dr John Lam owned the practice. She came to the practice with 15 years dental experience behind her. Courtney began her dental career back in 1998 as a “junior dental receptionist” back in her home town of Coffs Harbour New South Wales. When Courtney moved to Perth she began working with a periodontal specialist in West Perth as his dental nurse/receptionist before getting back into full time front office coordinating.
Courtney is very passionate about helping and caring for her patients, Courtney states “I find this very rewarding and satisfying”.
Away from work, her two young children Yagan and Evie keep her and her husband Ben very busy. Courtney loves to spend time at the beach and enjoys outdoor activities. Courtney is very fortunate to have done a lot of traveling overseas and frequently visits home back at the east coast to visit family.
Michelle – Dental Assistant
I first joined DENTAL REFLECTIONS in March 2010. In between then and now I took one year off to travel the world, basing myself in Dubai and exploring to all the different ends of the world. I returned back to Perth in June 2013 with the opportunity to continue my work at DENTAL REFLECTIONS. If I am not at work you can find me at the beach with the love of my life, Macey (My British bulldog), out on a night with my friends or eating at different restaurants. The practice is my second home, my patients are my close friends and the crew I work with are my family. It’s the kind of vibe you will instantly feel the moment you walk through our doors. All it takes is a little courage and you can trust that you are in great hands.
Bree – Dental Assistant
I graduated in 2007 with a certificate in Dental Assisting and have worked at two other practices prior to Dental Reflections. Although I have only recently started here I already love the dynamics of this practice and look forward to working with Dr Fernando and the rest of the team here at Dental Reflections. For me one of the mains aspects I love about dentistry is seeing the confidence boost a new beautiful smile can give someone. Outside of work I love spending time with my husband Peter and two beautiful children Jake and Mia.
