Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that fills the space left by one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing ones are prepared as crowns that serve as abutments supporting the prosthetic (replacement) tooth.
Dental bridges are often made of precious or semiprecious metals, porcelain, or a fused combination of the two. When the dental bridge is in a more visible area, it can be made of porcelain only for cosmetic purposes. Different kinds of bridges are available and your dentist will advise as to what is best for you.
Caring for a dental bridge takes a little more effort every day than your natural teeth, but is well worth the investment! You will learn to clean carefully around the bridge with dental floss, super-floss and interdental brush before you brush.
At Dental Reflections, all dental bridge cases are assessed by our experienced and skilled professionals, Dr Ina Labuschagne, Dr Sean Archibald, Dr John Lam and Dr Greg Crane. More often today dental bridges are being superseded by dental implants. Occasionally though they may still be the treatment of choice. All options will be explained by your dentist at your consult visit.
